The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently hosted a “New Thailand Educational Trip” for 40 members of the media from the People’s Republic of China with the objective of promoting the kingdom’s unique travel experiences among Chinese tourists.

Ms. Runjuan Tongrut, TAT Executive Director of the East Asia Region said, “This New Thailand Educational Trip project is in line with our long-term marketing strategy to boost quality tourism from China. The programme has been carefully arranged to show a new side of Thailand to media delegates, whose reports and stories will help us to reach a market of more than 50 million Chinese travellers and let them know that in Thailand they’ll enjoy a blend of high quality, unique experiences and friendly hospitality.”
The trips, which take place this week from 11-16 February and 14-19 February, 2017, showcase fun and unique Thai local experiences in major and up-and-coming tourist destinations including Bangkok, Trang, Krabi, Chiang Rai, and Chiang Mai to the delegates from various leading media channels in the People’s Republic of China including television, radio, newspapers and online.
The trip offered members of the media the chance to enjoy a wide variety of high-quality, unique experiences that Thailand can offer. This include witnessing the 21st annual Underwater Wedding Ceremony at Ko Kradan and Ko Muk in Trang, visiting the islands of Krabi, and exploring the underwater world of the Andaman Sea. The hills and traditional culture of the North are also featured with trips to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, and a more modern side of Thailand is showcased in Bangkok.
Ms. Runjuan said, “This trip will lead to new tour packages to promote unique local Thai experiences in Thailand among Chinese tourists. And by arranging this trip in February, the media can also experience Thailand’s romantic side as we celebrate Valentine’s Day and promote the kingdom as an ideal destination for weddings and honeymoons.”
TAT has five offices in the People’s Republic of China in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Kunming, and Guangzhou, which are tasked to promote and market Thailand to Chinese tourists and travellers.
In 2017, TAT expects Thailand to attract at least 9 million visitors from the People’s Republic of China and generate some 570 billion Baht for the Thai economy.
